Background

In January 2006, five Stamford high school students, in search of a structured youth boxing program, learned about the Revolution Fitness (RF) boxing gym through the Stamford YMCA. At the same time, Ahmad Mickens, a founder of Revolution Fitness, was developing a youth boxing program targeted to Stamford’s inner city youth. To accommodate the financial needs of these high school students, who could not afford the cost of Revolution Fitness’ boxing program, RF reduced program membership rates, and arranged work-study hours for the students.

The success of this initial program, as well as the ultimate desire to continue providing The RF Youth Boxing program services to those youngsters who could not afford it, have prompted The RF Youth Boxing program founders to form a not-for-profit entity and raise funds to help these needy youngsters. To date, this program continues to be the only one of its kind in the city of Stamford and surrounding towns.

Purpose

RF Youth Boxing is designed to give children and teens from at risk and low-income families, a constructive and exciting physical fitness alternative to negative life choices that might otherwise occupy their after-school time. Boxing is without a doubt one of the most rewarding and challenging sports available for youth today. The combination of athleticism, physical and mental conditioning, sportsmanship, and self-dignity that develop from a well-structured boxing program are unequaled in any other sport.

Program Cost

There is a one-time initiation fee of $25.00, which covers all processing fees as well as service and maintenance up keep.
All fees are subject a 6% CT health club tax.

• General Membership (or subsidized after-school program) $30 Per Month + tax
• After-School Program (13 to 17 years old) $60 Per Month + tax
• Mighty Mites (5 to 12 years old) $100 Per Month + tax
• Financial Aid is available for kids in the After-School program or the Mighty Mites Program (Proof is Required)
• Scholarships from Stamford Police is also available (Limited spots and must be referred)
