Ahmad gives Rosinsky all he can handle in the Semi-Finals
Posted by: Lee Shabaka on Mar 30, 2008

Every now and then a Boxer will find himself in a high profile match that will define where he/she stands among their peers, win lose or draw. That is where Ahmed found himself yesterday when he drew Will Rosinsky, a USA National Champ 3 time Golden Gloves Champion and was also a member of the US World Team. Will has literally fight just about everywhere, from the US to China. With all that experience, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say Rosinsky may have well over 60 fights. Ahmed went into this fight with 12 bouts and a NY Metro Championship. But what you see on paper and what transpired in the ring are 2 different things.

Round one Will comes out strong, going to the body and backing Ahmed up against the ropes. But on the ropes Ahmed is landing short rights to the head which causes Will to back off and reset. From there they both exchange punches throughout the round with Ahmed landing the more effective head shots while Will has to settle for the body.

Round two Ahmed goes back to boxing while Will is still seeking to bomb the body. While he is working down stairs Ahmed is working upstairs. Chopping those short rights and at times knocking Will off balance. Then Ahmed changes the pace by shielding up and meeting Will on the inside. The two has a bangfest inside the pocket.

After realizing that Will couldn't do damage to him on the inside, Ahmed flips the script and goes to Will, making him fight on the inside. But an interesting thing happens, when Will sees that Ahmed is willing to exchange he goes in reverse for most of the round. Ahmed is now going after him! This reminded me of when Mosley took on Cotto and had him backing up. No matter what Will threw or landed Ahmed had an answer and the defense. But another interesting thing happens. Will is showing signs of not wanting to taste as much from Ahmed, as much as Ahmed was willing to taste what he had. This competition was getting very tight folks. But I also knew that Ahmed was fighting Will's reputation just as much as he was fighting the fighter.

By round four I knew that we had a big chance of winning this thing. So we (I and Vanessa) tell Ahmed that this is the last round! Only one more round, 2 more minutes! He has nothing for you!!! Take it to him! They meet in the middle like two bulls with no one wanting to give. Both working hard but Ahmed is still landing more head shots with Will getting a good head shot every now and then. As they come down the stretch it's a see-saw battle. Ahmed, now being a little winded with Will not far behind, is still going forward, showing no signs of backing down. Will is on his bike and settling for pot-shots and jumping in now and then. The bell rings and the audience shows it's approval. It was one hell of a fight in the light heavy weight division. One of the best light heavy weight fights I've seen at the Gloves in a while.

The scores are in and Will gets the W. Ahmed put on an excellent performance. As the coach I felt the bout was actually a draw by NY standards. By National Standards I would have given to Ahmed on points. I'm not gonna complain about them giving it to the favorite because we have had a few incidents where as we were given a favorites decision in a close battle. Therefore I'll settle for the grand performance that Ahmed gave and the statement he sent out to the whole light heavyweight division. Congratulations Ahmed, you did in this fight what many have tried to do but couldn't.
